Continuing on our August theme which was "Childhood", here's a piece written by Carinder Malhi.
"Growing up in an environment deeply interwoven with the intricate dynamics of politics, my childhood was marked by a profound interest in the governance systems that shaped our lives, especially concerning disability rights and the policies of Muslim governments. My name is Carinder, and my journey into the world of politics began at a young age. By the time I was 10 or 11, politics had become more than a mere interest; it was a passion that drove me toward understanding and advocating for meaningful change.
Living amidst a rich tapestry of cultures and ideologies, I often found myself contemplating the ways in which government policies affected individuals, particularly those with disabilities. The policies implemented by various Muslim governments fascinated me, as I observed the diverse approaches they took towards inclusivity and accessibility. This curiosity led me to explore how different political systems addressed the needs of disabled individuals and the challenges they faced.
A significant influence during my formative years was a mentor who worked tirelessly in the field of disability advocacy within Muslim communities. Their dedication and insights into the intricacies of policy-making and implementation were eye-opening. Through their guidance, I learned about the successes and setbacks involved in creating legislation that truly served the needs of all citizens, regardless of their physical capabilities.
As a child, I was not content with simply learning about these issues in theory. I felt a strong urge to engage actively with the political discourse that surrounded me. I spent countless hours reading news articles, watching political debates, and discussing policy matters with anyone willing to engage in conversation. My school provided a fertile ground for this burgeoning interest, offering forums such as debate clubs and youth political groups where I could express my opinions and exchange ideas.
Despite my youth, I was determined to make a difference. I initiated small projects in my community aimed at raising awareness about disability rights and the importance of inclusive policies in Muslim governance. These initiatives, though modest, were instrumental in fostering a sense of empowerment and responsibility within me. They taught me the value of perseverance, the importance of questioning established norms, and the potential for change.
My journey into the realm of politics during my childhood laid a strong foundation for my continued commitment to advocacy and reform. The experiences and challenges I encountered fueled my passion and solidified my belief in the power of political engagement to create a more just and equitable society. As I continue to grow and learn, my dedication to disability rights and understanding the nuances of Muslim government policies remains unwavering, driven by the hope that my efforts can contribute to a brighter future for all."
A great piece which really allows us to see the connections to the world we make as children.
Love this Carinder
